“We are never more fully alive, more completely ourselves… than when we are at play”
I grew up as one of nine children (yes, 9!). Our parents encouraged us to learn through play, follow what gave us joy, and not over-value academics and money. By my teenage years though, fast progression had become my focus for fulfillment.
After graduating with a 1st class degree in Computer Science, I trained as an accountant with KPMG. My ambition led to Head of Internal Audit by my early 30s and Chief Risk Officer of a $3bn organisation by 35.
But behind the scenes, I often struggled. With stress, depressive periods and some physical health issues too. I had the Executive role that I had always strived for, but something was missing. In work and life overall. As Dr Stuart Brown describes it, I hit a ‘soul crisis’.
I embarked on a journey of self-discovery. On my travels, I explored our primary intrinsic motivators. Potential, a well-trodden path for me. Purpose, which highlighted creativity was missing from my life. And play, which captured my imagination and gave rise to Playfilled.
My introduction to all things people was via an executive-level programme director role for a strategic global transformation programme.
I now creatively mentor people to help them feel better and reach their goals. And I get to do things I love: intellectual exploration, creating, and hearing stories from lots of different people. All with Tzukes as my partner in crime.
